MINERAL AND WASTE CORE STRATEGY CONSULTATION
As expected, we have received the next consultation document for the counties Minerals and Waste Local Development Framework details significant changes to the county strategy for waste management and proposes major new waste processing measures for at Calvert Landfill.
This is a large document to which we are expected to respond by the 25th April – not a lot of time! I have read through the document (the waste sections) and its much as I expected! I have tried to summarise the main recommendations below. I would however ask parishioners to have a look at this and respond either directly to BucksCC or to the Parish Clerk by the end of the month – unfortunately its quite a big ‘read’. The documentation can be viewed online at:
http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/bcc/content/index.jsp?contentid=736660487
If you have any trouble viewing it please let me know and I will get the hard copy round to you (we only have one).
We are hoping to set up an ‘extra-ordinary’ meeting on this to enable residents to come along and discuss with us. We would hope that our County and District Councillors will be in attendance.
There is also going to be a public meeting will also be held in Calvert Green Community Centre on Thursday 17th April 2008 starting 7.30pm. Because of expected demand and venue size, places will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. To reserve a place please call 01296 383207.
In Summary the document recommends two alternatives
Alternative 1, proposes the establishment of two Strategic Waste Centres for the recovery of both household and commercial/industrial waste, one at Calvert (north area) and one at Wapseys Wood (south area). All waste would be delivered to these sites direct from their respective catchment areas with no intervening transfer stations require
Alternative 2, proposes the establishment of Strategic Waste Centres for the recovery of household waste at either Calvert or Wapseys Wood with transfer stations at one or more of the sites at High Heavens (Wycombe), London Road (Amersham), College Road (Aston) Osier Way (Buckingham) and Richings Park (Iver). The establishment of a Strategic Waste Centre for commercial and industrial waste at the other site not being used for household waste
There is a contingency if either of the above sites turns out to be ‘undeliverable’ (cant take the volumes – which is very unlikely) of:
A site at Woodham Industrial Area to substitute for Calvert and a site at Springfield Farm to substitute for Wapseys Wood
So as you can see and as expected there are likely to be major changes at the Calvert Landfill site – remember we are talking about the recovery of waste here (the current landfill operations will go on with an expectation of year on year reductions). These will see the introduction of various alternative recycling facilities at these sites (industrial sized) including major incineration plants.
One of the possible big wins in this, under the Location assessment for Calvert, is the requirement by Bucks CC for a new access road route direct from the A41 – something that we originally proposed to them. This would at lease take the heavy traffic away from Calvert (although if the waste centre at Buckingham remains that traffic would continue).
Please contact me if further clarification is required.
